NJAFPA – Delivering Tremendous Value to the Membership – Conference Recap

OCTOBER 30, 2015 FALL CONFERENCE SUMMARY

This years NJAFPA Fall Conference was held at the Sheraton Eatontown including attendance of 32 NJAFPA members and non-members representing multiple school districts.

We were fortunate to have Dr. Yvette Jackson present the keynote address.

Dr. Yvette Jackson is a internationally recognized researcher, eduactor, lecturer and author.  Her work in assessing the learning potential of disenfranchised urban students has garnered her a reputation as one the leading authorities on the subject.

In her address, she emphasized instructional focus on students’ strengths as a means to build positive teacher/student relationships and instill confidence in learners.  Dr. Jackson also presented a breakout session on how to assess and capitalize on the learning potential in all students. Her related experiences and insights were inspiring.

This was truly a informational and inspirational address for all those that attended.

Additional breakout sessions were presented by Dr. John Hodge, who was the NJAFPA’s keynote speaker at the 2015 Spring Conference in Atlantic City (reducing the achievement gap) , Mari Pearlman (evidence-based assessment design), and Liz Azukas (cognitive rigor).

Vendor-sponsors were on hand to provide sample materials and answer attendees’ questions about how to implement and supplement programs in their districts.  The NJAFPA is also grateful that Dr. Anthony Wright was available to answer federal program-related questions at the conference on behalf of the NJDOE, Office of Supplemental Educational Programs.

NJAFPA continues to bring the most up-to-date, timely, actionable and relevant information available anywhere to our membership. If you  are not a member, join now!
